Hill College's Pharmacy Technician Program is a 208-hour program of instruction that prepares individuals for entry-level jobs as a Pharmacy Technician in retail and institutional settings. Students ill learn to prepare prescription orders under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, perform applicable pharmacy calculations, and comply with federal and state regulatory agency laws and regulations. The program consists of 208 hours of lecture and lab. Upon completion of this program, students will be able to perform all the duties required in any pharmacy practice setting. Students are also prepared to take the certification exam offered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board to become a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) or National Healthcareer Association. Hill College is a recognized education/training program for CPhT with the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB). 

Courses

  • PHRA 1013: Community Pharmacy Practice
    Introduction to the skills necessary to process, prepare, label, and maintain records of prescriptions in a community pharmacy including customer service, count and pour techniques, prescription calculations, drug selection and preparation, over-the-counter drugs, inventory management, and legal parameters. 
  • PHRA 1008: Pharmacy Insurance and Customer Service
    Overview of pharmacy benefits management and its impact on patient care. Includes the principles and practices of managed care pharmacy, Medicaid, and Medicare payment plans, reimbursement methods, and formularies. 
  • PHRA 1009: Pharmaceutical Mathematics
    Pharmaceutical mathematics including reading, interpreting, and solving calculation problems encountered in the preparation and distribution of drugs.
  • PHRA 1005: Drug Classification
    An introduction to the study of disease processes, pharmaceutical drugs, abbreviations, classifications, dosages, actions in the body, and routes of administration.
